Our Surf Life Saving Club is a place where people from all walks of life and professions can provide an invaluable community service, whilst learning skills and making friends for life.

Levin Waitārere Surf LifeSaving Club offers its members many useful skills, accreditation and opportunities in a variety of volunteer positions.

Everything revolves around our core business of providing beach safety and a vital community service and playing a fundamental role in building healthy communities and better health outcomes of all ages.

The Facility

We are extremely excited to have moved into our new, purpose-built, lifesaving facility; Te Whare Waitā.

From mid-December through to mid-March each year the facility is used 7 days-a-week for lifeguard operations and training.  A 7 day-a-week lifeguard service runs for six weeks from mid-November until the end of January.  This is followed by a weekend lifeguard service and weekday delivery of the SLSNZ Beach Education program for schools from the start of February through to Mid-March.

The club has a duty to safeguard children and young people, as well as ensuring the health and safety of all members.  In some cases, this includes the requirement for members to undertake police vetting and safeguarding training, which are both required to be completed by November each year.

For these reasons, over the November 2023 – March 2024 period, access and use of the facility is limited to active members and their family when club operations and activities are being undertaken.

We are aware of the considerable community interest in the new facility and we really enjoyed sharing the facility and celebrating the opening with many of you at the open day on 2 December 2023.

We ask that when club operations and activities are being undertaken, limitations to access are respected, to ensure the delivery of the lifeguard service for the community and to ensure the safeguarding and protection of our members while at the club.

Membership

Membership is largely made up of active members and their family.  Active members include volunteer lifeguards, 7–13-year-old nippers and junior surf members, and volunteers supporting our operations and activities.

If you are interested in becoming an active volunteer lifeguard, training for new lifeguards kicks off in August each year with an exam usually around late November.

If you are interested in joining our summer nippers and junior surf program, registration takes place in October each year with limited spaces available.  Registration for the 2024/2025 season have not opened as yet.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities for 2024/2025, please contact the club.  We will retain your details and contact you closer to the time.
